Scopello, the Zingaro Nature Reserve and other trips
Scopello, protected by the
“Faraglioni” rock formations, is a 17th-century fortified farm area (beam) with a large courtyard which is the destination of tourists coming from all parts of Europe to see the breath-taking beauty of its rocky coastal area and sea beds. Here,
diving enthusiasts can explore the “
Underwater Museum”, an archaeological itinerary that, by means of a guide-rope, makes it possible for diving tourists to admire the artefacts that rest on the seabed, including Greek, Punic, African and Spanish amphoras and pottery. Also the “
Tonnara di Scopello” (a tuna-fishing estate in Scopello) is of unrivalled beauty and this was operational until the mid-20th century; today it is a real and proper “maritime museum” which is often chosen as a film shooting location.
Only a few kilometres away there is also the
“Relitto del Capua” (Capua Wreck), an armed ship that sank during the second world war and which rests on the sea bed bordering with the
Zingaro Nature Reserve: 8 km of spectacular coast studded with small, uncontaminated coves.
