A small town that embraces all the beauties of Sicily

Set in a beautiful bay, at the foot of a high, rugged mountain rich in luxuriant vegetation, the town slopes gently down towards the sea. During the Middle Ages Castellammare developed around the castle surrounded by sea, and this older part is still in tact today.

Originally a drawbridge would have linked the castle to the town. The historic British attack at the port, foiled, according to the legend, by “Madonna di l’assicursu” (Madonna of relief), is celebrated with an historical event every two years.
